Garden party! 20th July

   |   By

To celebrate the completion of our garden renovation we’re having an Open Day on Sunday, 20th July, 12 noon-3 pm.

It’s free entry and we’ll be serving burgers and sausages (including veggie) so come and have a bite to eat. There’ll be a Commando Joe’s inflatable, beat-the-goalie and other activities to keep the kids busy.

All Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to attend in uniform please.

The garden renovation has been made possible by a Big Lottery Fund grant. Thank you.

Neville Collier

   |   By

It is with sadness that we report the death on 9th October of Neville Collier.

Neville was a former Wolf Cub (Cub Scout) Leader then Group Scout Leader at 1st Withington and eventually District Commissioner of South East Manchester, having started at 1st Withington as a Boy Scout in the 1940s.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Sponsored Bike Ride

  |   By

The sponsored bike ride is this Sunday, 23rd September at 12noon in LadybarnPark. That’s on the corner of Parsonage Road and Parrs Wood Road.

Sharon says, “parental supervision would be helpful so ask an adult to come along with you if possible. Also bring some refereshments as none will be provided by the leaders!”

See you there!!

Operation Impact!!

  |   By

Days before our Centenary Open Day dozens of students volunteers descended on our scout hut armed with paint brushes and rollers. It was all part of Operation Impact, a community volunteering programme run by the University of Manchester.

The students painted the main hall and the rear of the hut (previously blighted with graffiti) as well as clearing the garden of rubbish and making wooden planters. Many of the eager workers lived in Withington and were keen to contribute to their community.

Operation Impact will continue to work with the Scout Group on others projects and we welcome their support. Thanks.
